Dr. Kalenda Eaton is a professor in The Clara Luper Department of African and African American Studies. As a scholar of Black literary and cultural studies, her research areas include literature written by women; studies of the American west; social and cultural history; Digital Humanities, and Diaspora studies.
Dr. Gerise Herndon is director of the International Studies program at Nebraska Wesleyan. She has published Emerging Perspectives on Maryse Condé: A Writer of Her Own, as well as articles on Rwandan women’s power and teaching genocide studies. She has served as consultant for the Center for Gender Studies at National University of Rwanda Teaches College and as a Fulbright specialist at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India.
Margaret D. Jacobs is the Chancellor’s Professor of History and the Director of the Center for Great Plains Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). She is of settler background and collaborates with Rosebud Sioux journalist Kevin Abourezk on Reconciliation Rising (reconciliationrising.org), a multimedia project that showcases Indigenous people and settlers who are working together to honestly confront painful and traumatic histories, promote meaningful and respectful dialogue between Natives and non-Natives, and create pathways to reconciliation. Jacobs is also the co-founder and co-director of the Genoa Indian School Digital Reconciliation Project at UNL. She has published more than 35 articles and 3 books, primarily about Indigenous child removal and family separation. She will publish After One Hundred Winters: In Search of Reconciliation on America’s Stolen Lands with Princeton University Press in 2021.
Dr. Rangira Béa Gallimore is Professor Emerita of French and Francophone studies at University of Missouri-Columbia. She published two books and numerous articles in Francophone Studies. Since 2004 her publications have focused on the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Gallimore’s recent publications analyze gender issues in genocide and post genocide Rwanda. She is also a certified trauma counselor and founder of the non-profit Step Up! American Association for Rwandan Women.
Heather Connell produced and directed the feature documentary Small Voices: The Stories of Cambodia’s Children; her second documentary, Forget us Not, follows the stories of non-Jewish Holocaust survivors. Connell founded and is the executive director for Safe Haven Medical Outreach Program, a nonprofit medial, educational, and therapeutic outreach for children with disabilities in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Dr. Anna Rocca is associate professor of French and Italian at Salem State University. She published Assia Djebar, le corps invisible: Voir sans etrevue and specializes in contemporary women writer of North Africa, autobiography, and transnational feminist movements.
Kalenda Eaton, Associate Professor of African and African American Studies at the University of Oklahoma and contributor to the book, will moderate.
